Women's Golf Places Fifth; Binzel Breaks School Record

The Bowling Green State University women's golf team concluded its 1999-2000 season by placing fifth in the second annual Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship held this past Friday through Sunday at Walden Ponds in Hamilton, Ohio. The Falcons finished sixth in last year's inaugural event.
BG was led by freshman Shelley Binzel (Dublin, OH/ Coffman) who placed 11th with a three-round score of 238. Sophomore Shannon Smith (Waynesville, OH) was next for the Falcons placing 27th at 253. Seniors Missy Hinds (Noblesville, IN) and Kate Kolesnik (Oshawa, ONT/Paul Dwyer) tied for 32nd at 258. Freshman Stephanie Elsea (Worthington, OH/ Kilbourne) had a 260 to finish tied for 37th, while senior Shannon Sharp (Centerville, OH) placed 39th with a 261.
Shelley Binzel broke the school record for season average with a mark of 80.18. The previous mark of 80.3 was set by Laura Broadbent (1986-87).
