Bowling Green State University junior pitcher Tony Fontana is the second-rated draft eligible prospect in Ohio by Baseball America.
The Major League Baseball draft, consisting of 50 rounds, will be held June 5-7.
Fontana earned Mid-American Conference All-League First Team honors this past season after leading the Falcons with an 8-3 mark and a 2.69 earned-run average. Equally tough against both left-handed (.222) and right-handed batters (.229), he also allowed only three stolen bases (in 11 attempts) in 83.2 innings.
He struck out 78 batters and allowed only 32 walks, while leading BG with two shutouts and eight complete games in his 14 starts. Fontana had a career-high 11 strikeouts on April 15 vs. Marshall. He also had a three-hit shutout of Toledo on April 1.
Bowling Green has had four players drafted the last two years and current Falcon alums include Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Orel Hershisher and Montreal Expos infielder Andy Tracy.
