Falcon Baseball To Play Six Games This Week

BG BASEBALL TO PLAY SIX GAMES THE FINAL WEEK OF THE REGULAR-SEASON
The Bowling Green State University baseball team will conclude the non-conference portion of its regular-season schedule with contests at Michigan (May 9) and at home against Dayton on Wednesday, May 10.
Bowling Green's final league series will be at home on May 13-14 against Akron. Doubleheader action both days at Steller Field begins at 1 p.m. Senior day will be on Sunday.
UPCOMING GAMES ...
The Falcons need a combination of four BG wins and Miami losses to secure a spot in the 2000 Mid-American Conference Baseball tournament. The No. 1 seed will host the conference tournament beginning on Wednesday, May 17.
LOOKING BACK AT LAST WEEK ...
May 6 -- Ohio 5, BGSU 4 (Game 1)
Ohio scored four times in the seventh inning to hand Bowling Green a 5-4 setback in Saturday's first game.
May 6 -- Ohio 11, BGSU 1 (Game 2)
Bowling Green lost its fifth straight Mid-American Conference game falling at Ohio, 11-1, in Saturday's nightcap.
The Bobcats scored three times in the first inning and added six more in the fourth highlighted by a Mike Arbinger bases clearing double to right.
May 7 -- Ohio 11, BGSU 10 (Game 1)
Bowling Green lost an 11-10 decision in Sunday's first game at Ohio University as the Bobcats scored three times in the bottom of the seventh.
OU catcher Jeremy Johnson hit the first delivery from BG relief pitcher Ryan Streb over the center field fence with two runners on for the victory.
In the top of the seventh, BG scored twice to take a 10-8 advantage. Sean Ryan drew a one-out walk and scored on Aric Christman's two-run blast over the center field fence.
May 7 -- Ohio 8, BGSU 1 (Game 2)
Bowling Green dropped the fourth game of the weekend series at Ohio University by an 8-1 score.
The Bobcats scored five times in the fourth inning chasing Falcon starter Brett Baumgartner. Brad Henry allowed three runs in the sixth inning. Chad Curlis retired one of the two batters he faced.
FALCON NOTES ...
Bowling Green can control its own fate in regards to clinching a spot in the Mid-American Conference post-season tournament. The Falcons are currently in third place in the MAC East Division, percentage points ahead of Miami. BG hosts Akron for four games this coming weekend, while the RedHawks entertain Ohio for four games. BG needs to win the same number of games as Miami (i.e. magic number of four - BG wins and/or Miami losses) to clinch a playoff spot.
Junior center fielder Aric Christman has at least one hit in 12 of BG's last 13 games, including seven multiple-hit games. In the last 13 games, he has raised his average from .313 to .343, while contributing five doubles, a home run and eight RBI from the leadoff spot.
Senior second baseman Kenny Burdine continues to lead the Falcons in batting average at .377. He is batting .426 against left-hand pitchers and is hitting .512 with runners in scoring position.
Junior right fielder Lee Morrison had the fourth four-hit game by a Falcon this year in Sunday's first game at Ohio. In his last 19 games, Morrison is batting .415 (27 for 65) with 20 RBI and nine multiple-hit contests. Ten of his 27 hits have been for extra bases.
Sophomore outfielder Len Elias leads BG in on-base percentage at .461 and has a team-best 35 walks, and only 13 strikeouts.
