Tony Fontana, a junior right-handed pitcher on the 2000 Bowling Green State University baseball squad, has signed a professional contract with the Boston Red Sox foregoing his final year of eligibility.

Fontana will be playing for the Lowell (MA) Spinners of the New York-Penn League, a short-season Class A league. The regular season begins June 20 and finishes on September 6.
