Volleyball Wins UCF Tournament

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team defeated Florida International University Saturday (Sept. 9) to clinch the title of the UCF Fall Invitational. The weekend tourney was held at UCF Arena.
The Falcons, now 4-2 on the year, downed FIU by scores of 15-12, 15-10, and 15-11. For the Brown and Orange, juniors Caty Rommeck and Shyann Robinson had 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Defensively, freshman Susie Norris had 11 digs in the victory. Norris has led the team in digs in five of her first six collegiate matches.
In addition to her offensive prowess, Rommeck was stellar on defense. She had nine total blocks, including six solo rejections. It marked the second time on the weekend that Rommeck had six solo blocks.
Freshman Sara Sikorski had 34 assists in the contest, and added three block assists. Redshirt sophomore Kristin Gamby also had three block assists, while senior Krista Davis had two.
There was no all-tournament team chosen at the UCF Fall Invitational.
The Falcons of head coach Denise Van De Walle have won four consecutive matches after starting the season with two losses.
BGSU now returns home to host a tournament next weekend (Sept. 15-16) at Anderson Arena. Evansville, Illinois at Chicago and IUPUI will join the Falcons in the tourney field. Friday's two-match slate begins at 5:00 p.m., while Saturday's action will commence at 10:00 a.m. There will be four matches played at Anderson on Saturday.
