Volleyball Downs Evansville In Three Games

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team successfully opened the home portion of the 2000 schedule with a three-game sweep of Evansville Friday night at Anderson Arena. The Falcons' win, by scores of 15-8, 15-11, 15-8, was the first match of the BGSU Invitational for both teams.
The Brown and Orange (5-2) hit .303 as a team en route to a fifth consecutive victory. A pair of juniors, Caty Rommeck and Shyann Robinson, hit double digits in the kills department. Rommeck had a match-high 13 kills, and also led both teams with seven total blocks. Rommeck had five solo rejections among that total.
Robinson had 10 kills and hit a match-best .450, making just one error in 20 total attempte on the night.
Freshman Susie Norris had nine kills for the Falcons, while junior setter Natalie Becker had 33 assists and a contest-high 12 digs. Rommeck had 11 digs to record a double-double.
For the Purple Aces (5-4), Julie Groves and Ladi Iya had 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Iya led the team with a .292 hitting percentage. UE hit .124 as a team.
The BGSU Invitational continues Saturday (Sept. 16), with four matches at Anderson Arena. Evansville opens the day with a 10:00 a.m. contest against Illinois at Chicago. BGSU will face IUPUI in a 12:30 p.m. match.
In Friday's first match, UIC rallied from a two-games-to-none deficit for a five-game victory over IUPUI (14-16, 13-15, 15-5, 15-5, 15-5). The Flames improve to 8-1, while the Jaguars drop to 3-7.
