Men's Golf Places Third At Titans Invitational

The Bowling Green State University men's golf team began its 2000-2001 season by placing third at the EDS/Detroit Titans Invitational held this past Monday and Tuesday at Arbor Hills Country Club in Jackson, Michigan.
The Falcons team score of 885 (297-291-297) placed BG behind Butler (875) and Eastern Michigan (877). Following the Falcons were Oakland (887), Detroit (889), Grand Valley State (890), Morehead State (892), Youngstown State (893), Dayton (899), Cleveland State (904), Detroit-Red (907) and Loyola of Chicago (913).
Leading the way for BG was junior Brian Gerken (Napoleon, Ohio) who tied-for-fourth individually with a 54-hole score of 216 (76-69-71). Senior Jon Smarrelli (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) and junior Justin Gillham (Perrysburg, Ohio) tied-for-16th at 221. Sophomore Adam Balls (Woodstock, Ontario/College Ave Secondary School) tied-for-37th at 227, while freshman Chris Kucera (Chatham, Ontario/Chatham Kent Secondary School) placed 64th with a 241.
Coach Garry Winger's squad will next be in action Sept. 23-24 when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa to compete in the Hawkeye Intercollegiate.
