Volleyball Falls To Host Indiana In Four Games

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Caty Rommeck banged out 17 kills, but it was not enough as the Bowling Green State University volleyball team suffered a four-game loss (8-15, 13-15, 16-14, 14-16) to host Indiana University Satrurday afternoon (Sept. 2). The match was the Falcons' second of three contests at the season-opening IU Credit Union/Indiana Invitational at Assembly Hall.
The Brown and Orange (0-2) hit .035 as a team, led by Rommeck's .275 hitting percentage. Freshman Susie Norris was second on the team with nine kills, and she led the Falcons with 17 digs. Senior JoAnna Papageorgiou had eight of BG's 44 total kills on the night, and led the team with seven blocks.
Rommeck had six blocks, as the Brown and Orange posted a team total of 13 rejections.
For the Hoosiers (2-0), who advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year, Amanda Welter had 14 of the team's 59 kills. IU hit .078 as a team, led by the .278 percentage of Laura Dewitz. Dewitz had a match-high eight blocks.
For the Falcons, junior Amber Vorst had 11 digs to go along with five kills. Setters Natalie Becker, a junior, and freshman Sara Sikorski had 19 and 16 assists, respectively. Becker and Papageorgiou each had a pair of service aces.
Bowling Green will conclude tournament action Saturday evening (Sept. 2), taking on a third-straight NCAA Tournament team in Cincinnati. That match was scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. local time (6:00 p.m. Eastern).
