BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Caty Rommeck recorded a triple-double, and the Bowling Green State University volleyball team rallied from a two-games-to-none deficit for a five-game win (7-15, 12-15, 15-5, 15-13, 15-13) over the University of Cincinnati Saturday (Sept. 2). The match was the third and final contest for the Falcons at the IU Credit Union/Indiana Tournament at Assembly Hall.
The Falcons (1-2) rode Rommeck's standout performance, as the Sterling Heights, Mich., native recorded 24 kills, 11 blocks and 10 digs, setting career bests in all three categories. Rommeck's triple-double is the Falcons' first since the 1998 season. She was the lone Falcon representative on the all-tournament team.
Several other players posted impressive statistical totals as well, including freshmen Susie Norris and Laura Twyman. Norris capped a successful opening weekend to her collegiate career by recording 12 kills and a whopping 30 digs. Twyman, a redshirt freshman, had 10 block assists in just her second collegiate match.
Senior JoAnna Papageorgiou had 19 kills and 13 digs in the win over the Bearcats (1-2), who participated in the 1999 NCAA Tournament.
As a team, the Falcons hit .179 to the Bearcats' .159. BGSU had 74 kills and 105 digs, while UC had 71 kills and 97 digs in the contest. BGSU had a team total of 17 blocks, while Cincinnati had 10.
For UC, coached by former Toledo head man Reed Sunahara, senior Stephanie Meinig registers 19 kills and seven total blocks, while sophomore Trish Ladusaw had 15 kills and 24 digs.
The Falcons will return to action next weekend with three matches at the UCF Tournament in Orlando, Fla. BGSU will take on Western Carolina, host Central Florida and Florida International in the Friday-Saturday (Sept. 8-9) tourney.
