The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team will host its only match this week as the first-year Michigan Wolverines come to Cochrane Field on Thursday for a 5:00 p.m. match.
The Falcons suffered a 2-1 setback to Vanderbilt on Sunday in the final game of the 2000 BGSU Diadora Classic. BG's Saturday contest against Ohio State was stopped with 10:23 remaining in the first half due to lightning and heavy rains.
After the Michigan match, Bowling Green will play six of its next seven matches versus Mid-American Conference opponents. The Falcons open MAC play on Oct. 6 at Northern Illinois.
Seniors Matt Lyons (Maineville, Ohio/Cincinnati Moeller) and Fred Degand (Highland Park, Ill./Deerfield) are tied for the team lead with three goals apiece, while classmate Adam Erhard (North Olmsted, Ohio) has a team-best four assists.
Freshman Dave DeGraff (Naperville, Ill./Central) has played every minute this season in goal for BG and has a 1.86 goals-against average.
The Wolverine enter Thursday's match with a 3-3 mark following a 2-1 overtime loss to Penn State on Sept. 23. Albert Geldres has played in goal all six matches recording a 1.45 goals-against average. Kevin Taylor is UM's leading scorer with five points on two goals and one assist. Tom Gritter and Kevin Robinson each have two goals, while Ian Hirschfield and Ryan Yoder are tied for the team lead with two assists.
