The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak by defeating visiting Michigan, 2-0, Thursday at Cochrane Field. BG improves to 3-5 overall, while the Wolverines fall to 3-4.
The Falcons scored at the 17:24 mark when Detrick Matthews (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Hope-Rio Rancho, NM) headed in a cross-goal pass from Fred Degand (Highland Park, Ill./Deerfield) for his second goal of the season.
Degand increased BG's lead to 2-0 at the 23:23 mark when his header to the far post beat Wolverine goalkeeper Albert Geldres. Adam Erhard earned his team-leading fifth assist as he began the scoring play on a restart.
BG goalkeeper David DeGraff (Naperville, Ill./Central) earned his first collegiate shutout by making seven saves. Geldres was credited with four saves, all in the first half.
Bowling Green's next match will be on Friday, Oct. 6 when the Falcons travel to DeKalb, Illinois to begin Mid-American Conference play against the Northern Illinois Huskies.
