Former Bowling Green State University goalkeeper Scott Vallow, now with the A-League's Rochester Rhinos, was named to the league's First All-Star team. He earlier received the A-League Goalkeeper of the Year award for having the lowest goals-against average.
During the regular season, he had a record of 12-6-1 and a league-leading 0.83 goals-against average in 19 starts. His eight shutouts were the third-best single-season total in franchise history.
In five postseason starts, Vallow has posted a 4-0-1 record and three shutouts while compiling a 0.60 goals-against average.
The Rhinos knocked off a fiesty Toronto Lynx club last Sunday by a score of 1-0. Rochester defender Craig Demmin headed in his first career goal as a Rhino to push the Rhinos into the finals for the third consecutive season. The Rhinos three-time Most Valuable Player, Demmin skied over two Lynx defenders to hammer home a Carlos Zavala free kick in the 80th minute. Rhinos 'keeper Scott Vallow tallied his third clean sheet of the postseason.
The Rhinos will battle the Minnesota Thunder in the A-League championship game on Saturday, September 30 at 8:05 p.m. It is the third consecutive season the two clubs will battle for the title, with each team claiming victory once. Rochester defeated the Thunder 3-1 at Frontier Field in 1998 while dropping a 2-1 decision to Minnesota at the National Sports Center last season.
