The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will begin its 2000-2001 schedule this Monday (Sept. 11) and Tuesday (Sept. 12) at the EDS/Titan Invitational being held at Arbor Hills Country Club in Jackson, Michigan.
Eleven schools will be competing with BGSU and Eastern Michigan representing the Mid-American Conference. Western Kentucky won the 1999 Invitational, but will not return to defend its title this year.
The format will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday (54 hole tournament). Bowling Green last competed in the EDS/Titan Invitational in 1998 and finished third.
The Falcons have five returning letterwinners, two redshirt freshmen, plus one newcomer for third-year head coach Garry Winger.
BG finished sixth at the 2000 Mid-American Conference championship last spring. Fifth-year senior Jon Smarrelli led BG with a 75.76 scoring average during the 1999-2000 school year. Justin Gillham (76.45), Brian Gerken (76.55), Adam Balls (77.83) and Andy Miller (78.30) are BG's other returning letterwinners.
