According to today's Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, former Bowling Green State University goalkeeper Scott Vallow will be named the A-League's Goalkeeper of the Year later this month for having a league-best 0.83 goals-against average. This award is based on GAA while other A-League honors are based on voting.
Vallow, 23, in his first season with the Rochester Rhinos after spending last year with U.S. Pro-40, became the No. 1 'keeper for Rochester when veteran Billy Andracki injured his knee on June 25.
"It's a great honor, but it's not an individual award because I have a great group of guys ahead of me that make my job easier," Vallow told the Democrat and Chronicle. Vallow had a 9-5 mark in 1999.
After winning two of his first three starts as a backup, Vallow became the starter after Andracki tore a knee ligament. Since then, he is 10-5-1 (six shutouts). Overall, he was 12-6-1 with eight shutouts.
