The Bowling Green State University hockey team won its fourth game in the last five contests with a 5-0 blanking at Princeton Saturday night.
Senior left wing Curtis Valentine notched his fourth of the year just 2:34 into the contest when he redirected a shot by Marc Barlow past PU goaltender Dave Stathos. Austin de Luis garnered the second assist on BG's game-winning goal.
The Falcons increased their lead to 2-0 when Grady Moore scored from the blueline with 5:03 remaining in the opening period. Ryan Murphy and Greg Day assisted on Moore's second of the year. Both of BG's first two goals came with the man-advantage.
BG's Ryan Murphy tallied his eighth goal in the last eight games when he scored 54 seconds into the middle stanza. Scott Hewson and Day assisted on Murphy's 11th of the season.
Freshman defenseman Kevin Bieksa scored his second of the campaign 24 seconds into the third period off an assist from Greg Day.
Senior right wing Dennis Williams scored his first goal since Dec. 30, 1999, when he deflected in a blueline shot by Kevin Bieksa with 1:08 left in the contest.
BG sophomore netminder Tyler Masters made 40 saves including 16 in the third period for his third career shutout. Stathos turned aside 18 Falcon shots. BG converted on two of its five power play chances, while stopping all seven Tiger man-advantage opportunities. Princeton had a 5-on-3 for 1:46 midway through the third period.
The Falcons improved their overall mark to 6-10-4, with the Tigers falling to 5-9-3. BG will conclude its six-game road trip with a Friday-Saturday (Jan. 12-13) series at Nebraska Omaha. The Falcons are 3-1 through the first four games of this road trip.
