Huntington, W.V. - Despite a career-high 13 saves by sophomore goalie David DeGraff, Bowling Green dropped a Mid-American Conference men's soccer match at Marshall on Sunday, 1-0. It was the seventh BGSU match decided by one goal this year.
Marshall (9-3-0 overall, 3-2-0 in the MAC) outshot the Falcons 32-6 and had seven more corner kicks than the visitors, 11-4. However, it wasn't until the 82nd minute that the Herd broke into the scoring column. Paul Duriu's goal at 81:59 came off of a corner kick by Firas Al-Sammarraie and was the only scoring of the match.
DeGraff kept Bowling Green in the match with his best effort as a Falcon. He had four saves in the first half and nine in the second half.
"DeGraff had the game of his life," BGSU coach Mel Mahler said. "He was brilliant."
Sophomore P.J. Behan led BGSU with two shot attempts, while Tony Malik, Damion Bennett, Detrick Matthews and Matt Martinka each had one shot attempt.
Bowling Green (4-5-1 overall, 1-4 in the MAC) travel to the University of Cincinnati on Wednesday, Oct. 17, for a 7 p.m. match, then host Ohio Wesleyan at Cochrane Field on Friday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m.
