Volleyball Back on Track, Move To 8-2

Buffalo, NY - After their first conference loss last week against Northern Illinois, the Falcons rallied in a five game match to defeat MAC conference team Buffalo (30-27, 30-21, 28-30, 27-30, 15-6). BG moves to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the MAC East.
Bowling Green took a quick lead, winning the first two games over the Bulls. However, Buffalo fought hard, taking the next two games in close decisions. Yet, the Falcons finished strong, winning decisively in the fifth game to take the match.
The Falcon seniors took control of the match, as the team was led Caty Rommeck, recording 22 kills on the night with a .286 hitting percentage, as well as posting three service aces, eight digs and eight total blocks. Fellow classmate Shyann Robinson had her best match of the season, recording 14 kills with a .321 hitting percentage, three service aces, seven digs and a block assist. Robinson set a career high with her three aces on the night. Setter Natalie Becker, also a senior, led the team with 49 assists. Becker also had three kills, an ace, six digs and two block assists in the win. Amber Vorst had six kills, hitting .333, as well as a service ace, eight digs, two block solos and three block assists.
Junior Kristin Gamby posted 13 kills, hitting .290 on the night, as well as two block solos and six block assists. Gamby's blocking action set new career highs in block assists and total blocks. She matched her career high for solo blocks. Sophomore Laura Twyman had nine kills in the match for a .412 hitting percentage, as well as posting a block solo and four block assists.
Also seeing action for the Falcons were seniors Kate Yeo and Karen Amstutz, sophomores Susie Norris, Nadia Bedricky and Sara Sikorski, and freshman Bridget Protas.
The Falcons had 70 total kills and hit .241 as a team, while Buffalo had 58 kills, but hit only .123. The Falcons had a team total 18 blocks and the Bulls had five.
BG stays on the road this weekend, facing Akron in a conference matchup Saturday (Oct. 6) at 7:00 p.m.
