Hiscox Wins Again

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Bowling Green State University men's tennis junior Geoff Hiscox captured a third-round singles victory Saturday (Oct. 6). The straight-sets win was the highlight of the day's action for the Falcons at the ITA Men's All-American Championships in Stone Mountain, Ga.
The tourney, the nation's largest collegiate tennis tournament, is being held at the Lincoln Tennis Center.
Hiscox, who posted Friday victories over players from Charlotte and Charleston Southern, recorded a 7-5, 6-3 win over Alabama's Stephen Mitchell Saturday. Hiscox needs two more wins in the tourney to advance from the prequalifying stage to the qualifying round.
In doubles play Saturday, the team of juniors Peter Gardonyi and Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo posted a decisive 8-1 result over a team from Nebraska. Hiscox and senior Vitek Wild lost to a team from Florida State in the opening round, while the duo of senior Mike Kossoff and freshman Ian Bliss drew a first-round bye.
Gardonyi and Lopez-Acevedo lost an 8-4 match to a Texas team in the second round, while Bliss and Kossoff lost to a duo from Furman.
The prequalifying tournament consists of 256 singles players (and 128 doubles teams) from 62 schools playing for eight spots in the qualifying tournaments which begin on Tuesday (Oct. 9). The ITA Men's All-American Championships main draw takes place Oct. 11-14. The first ITA national singles and doubles championships of the 2001-02 season, the ITA Men's All-American Championships are one of three national collegiate tennis championships of the season.
