Redhawks Skate Past BGSU, 5-2

Bowling Green, Ohio - Miami University jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first period and ended Bowling Green's weekend with a Central Collegiate Hockey Association series split on Saturday at BGSU Ice Arena by the final score of 5-2, in front of 2,702 in attendance.
Bowling Green's Greg Day lit up the net first with his third goal of the weekend at 4:49 in the first period for an early 1-0 Falcon lead. Austin de Luis assisted on the even-strength goal.
Miami (6-3-1 overall, 4-1-1 in CCHA) responded with four unanswered goals in the final 15 minutes of the first period. Evan Cheverie (7:50), Matt Medvecz (10:46), Nick Jardine (15:13 PP) and Todd Grant (19:42 PP) scored for the Redhawks. Miami outshot BGSU 12-6 in the first 20 minutes and converted on two-of-three power plays.
Both teams were held scoreless in a second period that featured eight Miami penalties and six Bowling Green penalties, including a 10-minute misconduct for BGSU's Taylor Christie and MU's Danny Stewart.
Senior defenseman Grady Moore got the Falcons to within two, 4-2, at 3:27 in the third period. Marc Barlow and de Luis assisted on the even-strength goal.
Bowling Green pulled goalie Jordan Sigalet late in the period but could not pull any closer. Medvecz added an empty net goal at 19:03 to give Miami the final 5-2 verdict.
Sigalet ended with 24 saves for the game while Miami's David Burleigh had 23 saves. The Redhawks had a 29-25 advantage in shots and were 2-for-5 in power play attempts. BGSU was 0-for-8 on the power play.
Bowling Green falls to 2-6-2 overall and 2-5-1 in the CCHA. The Falcons return home next Friday, Nov. 16, in non-conference action against Wayne State at the BGSU Ice Arena. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Bowling Green then travels to Wayne State on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 7:05 p.m.
