Bowling Green, Ohio - Seniors Tony Malik and Detrick Matthews were named to the Mid-American Conference first and second teams, respectively, on Monday afternoon as voted on by the league coaches. It is the first time that either player has been named to the All-MAC team.
Malik was the top-scoring defender on the Falcon squad this year with two goals and one assist in 17 games. One of his two goals was the game-winner in overtime at Buffalo on Sept. 30. After playing forward his first two seasons with the Brown and Orange, Malik moved to defender last season for coach Mel Mahler. The Parma native started 52 matches in his four years at Bowling Green and played in 74 total.
Matthews led Bowling Green with six goals and 13 points this season, as well as one assist. Three of his six goals were game-winners, including an overtime goal against nationally-ranked UW-Milwaukee in BGSU's Diadora Classic Championship. His other game-winning goals were against Cleveland State and Western Michigan. Matthews played in 69 matches during his time at Bowling Green with 51 starts.
