The win guarantees the Falcons a home match in the first round of the MAC Tournament that begins Tuesday (Nov. 20). Akron lost to visiting Ohio in three games Friday night, meaning that the Falcons hold a one-game lead over the Zips in the East Division race, with one match remaining in the regular season.
The Falcons were led by Kristin Gamby's 24 kills and three total blocks. Caty Rommeck posted 20 kills and four block assists and led the team in hitting percentage with .302. Rommeck recorded another double-double, with her 19 dig performace to lead the team in that category, as well.
Natalie Becker had a team high 46 assists, as well as eight digs and three kills. Playing a key role off the bench was senior Amber Vorst, who had five kills, six digs and three block assists in four games.
Behind Rommeck, two other Falcons posted double digit digs. Shyann Robinson and Kate Yeo posted 12 and 11 digs, respectively, playing a key defensive role in the Falcons win.
The two teams posted similar stats, with BG recording 64 team total kills to Kent's 66. The Falcons had seven total team blocks, while the Golden Flashes had 8.
The Falcons are back in action Saturday night (Nov. 17) for the final match of the regular season. BG will host the arch-rival University of Toledo at Anderson Arena with starting time set for 7:00 p.m. A win over the Rockets would give the Falcons the East Division championship outright, and would make BGSU the #2 seed in the conference tourney.
