BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - In the last match of the regular season, the Bowling Green State University volleyball team suffered a three-game loss to the arch-rival University of Toledo Saturday (Nov. 18). The Mid-American Conference match was held at Anderson Arena.
For the Falcons, who were defeated by game scores of 30-23, 30-27 and 30-28, Saturday's match marked the first-ever home loss to UT. BGSU had been perfect in 21 previous home matches against the Rockets. The Falcons now hold an overall advantage of 39-10 in the all-time series.
Saturday also marked the last regular-season match for the Falcon seniors. One of those seniors, Caty Rommeck was the sole Falcon to record double digits in kills, posting 16. She also had six digs and three block assists. Classmate Natalie Becker led the team with 40 set assists, and recorded seven digs in the match.
Another senior, Amber Vorst, led the team with 10 digs, and was the only Falcon to post double digits in this category. She added nine kills.
Sophomore Susie Norris led the team in hitting percentage, with a mark of .357 on the night. Norris had seven kills and two digs. Classmate Laura Twyman led the team in total blocks, recording four, including a block solo.
Overall, both teams recorded 45 team kills and five team blocks. Toledo recorded 23 errors in 113 total attempts, while BG has 22 errors in 114 total attempts. The Rockets had 13 aces, including five from Jessica Buck, to the Falcons' three.
The Falcons, despite the loss, still can win the East Division if Akron loses to Kent State Saturday evening. If UA defeats KSU, the Zips will share the division crown with the Brown and Orange.
Either way, the Falcons will host a MAC Tournament quarterfinal match Tuesday (Nov. 20) at 7:00 p.m. in Anderson Arena.
