Harris Named MAC East Player of the Week

East Division Offense: Josh Harris, Bowling Green, QB (So., Westerville, Ohio) for the second straight week, Harris was responsible for six touchdowns, this time against the league,s leader in total defense. Harris led BG,s 56-21 win against Toledo by passing for four TDs (63, 26, 17 and 13 yards) and rushing for two (7 and 34 yards). He completed 17-of-28 passes for 268 yards and rushed for 117 yards on 22 carries. The 56 points are the most ever in the 66 game BG-UT series.
Defense: James Harrison, Kent State, LB (Sr., Akron, Ohio) had five quarterback sacks (3 solo/2 assisted) for 33 yards in losses in the Golden Flashes, 24-20 win over Miami as KSU ended the season 6-5, its first winning season since 1987. Harrison registered a game-high 12 tackles and forced a fumble. He had a seven-yard assisted sack and a 15-yard solo sack on Miami,s final two plays from scrimmage to preserve the victory. The KSU defense limited the RedHawks to minus one yard rushing.
Special Teams: Zac Derr, Akron, PK (Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored 17 points (3-for-3 FG, 8-for-8 PATs) in the Zips, 65-62, triple overtime win against Eastern Michigan. Derr,s 37-yard field goal with one second left in regulation tied the game at 52-52. He added a 20 and 35-yard field goal in overtime, including the game winner. His eight PATs are a school record and his 17 points tied for the fourth most in league history.
Additional Nominations: Offense - Akron RB Bob Hendry (154 yards, 5 TDs versus Eastern Michigan), Kent State QB Josh Cribbs (ran for 151 yards on 16 att., 9.4 ypc, with TD runs of 24 and 51 yards versus Miami), Marshall TB Brandon Carey (20 att., 104 yards versus Youngstown State), Ohio HB Jamel Patterson (74 yards, 16 att., 1 TD at N.C. State).
Defense - Akron LB Eric Culberson (two interceptions, one returned for a TD versus Eastern Michigan), Bowling Green LB Khary Campbell (8 tackles, 1 int., 1 pbu versus Toledo), Marshall DB Roberto Terrell (int. return for TD versus Youngstown State),
Special Teams - Marshall,s Chris Massey (3 special team tackles versus Youngstown State, Ohio P Dave Zastudil (5 punts, 46.0 ypk 3 inside 20, at N.C. State).
West Division Offense: Kainoa Akina, Eastern Michigan, QB (Fr., Tucson, Az.) established a school record with six touchdown passes in a 65-62 triple overtime loss at Akron. He completed 27-of-50 attempts for 392 yards, including TD strikes of 52, 3, 13, 3, 17 and 25 yards. His fifth scoring strike came with 56 seconds left in the fourth quarter for a 52-49 lead. Akina gave EMU a 59-52 lead on the first play in overtime with a 25-yard pass to Chris Roberson.
Defense: Mark Zackery, Ball State, DT (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind.) helped the Cardinals to a share of the West Division title with six tackles, including two sacks for minus seven yards, and a pass break up, in a 35-31 win at Western Michigan. Led a BSU defense that allowed just 88 rushing yards
Special Teams: James King, Central Michigan, LB (Fr., Oak Park, Mich.) blocked a punt, his seventh of the year, and also an extra point in a 26-10 loss at Boise State. King had 13 tackles, two tackles for a loss and a sack from his linebacker position.
