HOMESTEAD, Fla. - The Bowling Green State University baseball team rallied from a huge deficit to post a 14-9 win over Yale University Tuesday afternoon (March 13). The game was part of the Homestead Challenge during the Falcons' spring trip to Homestead, Fla.
Yale got on the board early and often, scoring five times in the first inning and four more runs in the second for a 9-0 lead. From that point, however, Falcon relievers Brad Henry and Clayton Booth held the Bulldogs off the scoreboard until the BG bats heated up.
The Brown and Orange, now 6-2, rallied with a pair of runs in the fifth inning, and put a seven-spot on the board to tie the game in the seventh. Five more runs in the top of the ninth gave the Falcons the lead for good.
BGSU junior catcher Tim Newell had a pair of doubles and a pair of RBI in the win, scoring three runs. As a team, the Falcons had 12 hits in the contest.
Booth, a freshman, earned the win in relief to improve to 2-0 on the season. He pitched three innings of one-hit ball, striking out four batters.
The Falcons return to action with a Thursday (March 15) contest vs. C.W. Post at 2:15 p.m.
