LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Bowling Green State University men's tennis team began its spring trip successfully, posting a 4-3 win over the University of Northern Iowa Wednesday (March 14). The dual match was held in Las Vegas, Nev.
With the win, the Falcons broke a four-game losing streak and improved to 8-4 on the season. Northern Iowa drops to 7-5.
The Brown and Orange lost the doubles point, but rallied to win four of the six singles matches and claim the victory.
In doubles, the lone winning team for the Falcons came at the top flight, courtesy of sophomore Geoff Hiscox and junior Vitek Wild. That team posted an 8-6 win over the Panthers' Harry Walsh and Khambula Msiska to improve to 12-5 on the year.
Hiscox again was victorious in singles, winning at the second flight. His singles match, the only one of the six to require the maximum three sets, was the final contest to finish. The sophomore's 6-4 victory in the third set gave the Falcons the match victory.
Sophomore Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo was a winner at the third flight, while junior Mike Kossoff won at the fifth level. Sophomore Micael Lopez-Acevedo won his #6 singles match.
Hiscox is now 16-7 in singles this year, tying him with Wild for the team lead in wins.
The match was the first of five scheduled contests in three days for the Brown and Orange. The Falcons will return to action later Wednesday with another neutral-site match vs. Loyola Marymount University.
