LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Bowling Green State University men's tennis team won a close match for the second time on Wednesday (March 14), posting a 4-3 victory over Loyola Marymount University. The neutral-site match was held in Las Vegas, Nev.
The win gives the Falcons a 9-4 dual-match record on the season, and was the second 4-3 win of the day. Earlier Wednesday, the Brown and Orange defeated Northern Iowa by the same score.
The Lions of coach Bjorn Bork captured all three doubles matches to take the point, but BG rallied for singles wins at each of the top-four flights.
As in the UNI match earlier in the day, sophomore Geoff Hiscox provided the margin of victory. Hiscox defeated LMU's Carsten Bitschkus by a 7-6, 7-5 score in their match at the second singles flight. That match was the final contest to finish, and broke a 3-3 tie.
Junior Vitek Wild was a winner in straight sets at the top flight, improving his record to 17-7. Wild and Hiscox have identical singles records on the season, tying them for the team lead in victories.
In addition to Wild and Hiscox, other BGSU singles winners included sophomore Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo at the third flight and freshman Nick Moxley at the fourth level. Lopez-Acevedo rallied to win his final two sets after losing the first set by a 6-0 score.
"This was a big win over a a team that has beaten a couple of nationally-ranked teams this year," said Falcon head coach Jay Harris. "Geoff came through for us for the second time today, and Nicolas had a huge come-from-behind win."
The Falcons continue spring-trip action with a Thursday (March 15) match against South Carolina. That contest also will take place in Las Vegas. BGSU then heads to San Diego, Calif., for a pair of Friday (March 16) matches.
