Falcon Baseball Wins MAC Opener

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team slammed four home runs in the first two innings to defeat Eastern Michigan, 8-5, in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams. BGSU is 10-3 and 1-0, while EMU is 3-14, and 0-1 in the MAC.
The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when senior RF Lee Morrison homered to center field, scoring senior CF Aric Christman. The Falcons scored six unearned runs in the second. Junior catcher Tim Newell hit a three-run homer to right-center. Sophomore 2B Corey Loomis hit a two-run home run and junior LF Len Elias drove a pitch over the right-centerfield fence to close out the scoring for BGSU.
Senior Craig Menke picked up his second straight win. He allowed six hits in eight innings and struck out eight, while allowing one walk and two earned runs.
Christman led the Falcons 14-hit attack with three singles. Loomis, Elias, Morrison, Newell, and senior 3B Scott Dukate each had two safeties. BGSU will host EMU in a Saturday (March 24) doubleheader which begins at 1:00 p.m., at Steller Field.
