CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University student-athlete Tracy Howitt has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for women's tennis. The league office made the announcement Wednesday afternoon (March 28). Howitt earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Howitt, a native of Westlake, Ohio, lost a total of just one game en route to four wins last weekend. She beat Akron's Sara Hirschy by a 6-0, 6-0 score at the fifth singles flight in Friday's (March 23) BGSU win over the Zips. In doubles, she teamed with classmate Meghan Rhodes for an 8-0 win at the second flight.
On Saturday (March 24), Howitt again combined with Rhodes for an 8-0 victory at the second doubles flight, this time against Buffalo. Then, she downed UB's Jennifer Wong by a 6-0, 6-1 result.
Howitt has now won her last six singles matches, and she ranks ninth on the BGSU career list, with a total of 61 singles victories as a Falcon. Howitt is tied for eighth with 58 doubles wins in her career, and she is 10th in school history with a total of 119 combined career wins.
The Falcons (5-8, 2-0 MAC) continue a six-match homestand with Thursday's (March 29) contest vs. Ball State University. That match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m., but there is a good chance that weather conditions will force the teams to head indoors. In the event of inclement weather, the teams would play at the Courts of Sylvania beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Information on the location and start time of Thursday's match will be available at www.bgsufalcons.com as early as possible on Thursday.
