YPSILANTI, Mich. - Host Eastern Michigan University captured all six singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's tennis team Friday (April 13). The Mid-American Conference match was held at the Chippewa Racket Club.
With the loss, the Falcons drop to 7-11 overall and 3-3 in MAC play. The Eagles improved to 11-6 and 4-2, respectively.
The Falcons had taken the early lead in the match by winning the doubles point. BGSU took two of the three doubles matches. Falcon freshman Lisa Maloney combined with senior Erika Wasilewski for a victory at the second flight, while BGSU seniors Tracy Howitt and Meghan Rhodes won at the third level.
With their respective wins, Rhodes and Wasilewski each have a total of 146 career victories, tying them for third on the school's career list. Senior Abby Bratton remains second with 147 combined career victories, six shy of the school record held by Deidee Bissinger (153 from 1997-2000).
Bratton and junior Devon Bissinger, Deidee's sister, competed for the Falcons at the top doubles flight in Friday's setback.
BGSU's singles competitors, in order from flights one through six, included Rhodes, Bratton, Wasilewski, Devon Bissinger, Maloney and Howitt.
The Falcons now prepare for a Saturday (April 14) match vs. the arch-rival University of Toledo. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Glass City.
