Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green (24-10) won their seventh straight home game this afternoon as they defeated non-conference opponent Wright State University (20-17) at Steller Field. Wright State had won the previous encounter this year, however it was four unanswered runs scored by the Falcons in the final four innings of play that sealed the win for the Bowling Green.
The Falcons were the first on the board as two runs were scored off of three hits in the first inning, including an RBI single by senior RF Lee Morrison. The Raiders of Wright State answered back by scoring two runs of their own, coming in the fourth inning of play as Jake Hart homered for the Raiders.
The Falcons then broke the tie in the fifth inning as Morrison batted in senior CF Aric Christman who had singled to center field. The victory was sealed in the bottom of the eighth, as BG scored three runs off of four hits and two Raider errors. Junior SS Nick Elrod, sophomore 1B Kelly Hunt, and Morrison all collected runs in that inning for the Falcons.
Eight Falcon pitchers were used in the contest, with freshman LHP David Barkholz making his first collegiate start, walking one and striking out one in an inning pitched, along with collecting a run and hit as the designated hitter. Freshman RHP Nate Henschen was the winning pitcher, as he gave up only one hit in an inning pitched and thus collected his first collegiate victory.
Bowling Green will prepare for a four-game MAC series against conference rival Toledo. The first contest of the four will be at Toledo with a 3:00pm start time. The two teams will then travel back to Bowling Green Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00pm. The final game of the series will be played at Toledo at 1:00pm.
