Falcon Baseball Defeats Siena Heights, 22-3

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green (29-11) scored twenty unanswered runs, including a seven and eight run inning, beginning in the 5th to defeat Siena Heights (11-25) this afternoon at Steller Park. Bowling Green scored twenty or more runs for the fourth time this season, while also collecting twenty-two hits.
Siena Heights was the first team on the board as they began the game with four straight singles, with leadoff hitter Eric Russell scoring their lone run of the inning. Bowling Green would answer back with a run of their own, however through four innings, The Saints led the Falcons by a score of 3-2. BG's first big inning came in the fifth, with seven Falcons scoring off of seven hits. Freshman 3B Andy Hudak and Freshman RF Neil Schmitz each had 2-RBI singles in that inning to help contribute to the rally.
BG would go on to score two runs in the 6th, and three in the 7th, with junior SS Nick Elrod smashing a 3-run blast to right field in the latter inning. The 8th inning would prove to be even more productive for the Falcons, as eight runs were scored off of six hits and 1 Saint error. Freshman LHP/DH David Barkholz smacked a 2-run homerun over the left field wall to begin the spree. Six more Falcons would cross the plate in that inning to total 22 runs for the Falcons.
Sophomore RHP Brett Baumgartner (4IP, 1ER, 6SO) started the game for the Falcons as Bobby Gerling began the game pitching for the Saints, however neither pitcher was accredited with the decision. Freshman RHP Nate Henschen (1IP, 1BB, 1SO) earned the victory for the Falcons and improves to 2-0. Siena Heights Saint Ryan Swierlik (2IP, 4ER, 1BB) picked up his first decision of the year, a loss.
The Falcons will field their next home game at Steller Field this Friday at 3:30pm against non-conference opponent Adrian College.
