Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University (30-11 overall) scored eight runs on eight hits in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie visiting Adrian College, 11-11. Then, senior third baseman Scott Dukate's single down the left-field line drove home sophomore shortstop Corey Loomis from second base for the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving BGSU a 12-11 victory.
BGSU began the last-half of the ninth with five consecutive hits, including a lead-off double to right field from designated hitter Nate Henschen. The freshman then scored when junior leftfielder Len Elias singled him home for the Falcons' first run of the rally. Singles by second baseman Nick Schmidt and center fielder Aric Christman followed before sophomore Corey Loomis drove both of them home with a double into left field. A walk to sophomore first baseman Kelly Hunt forced Adrian's coach to make a pitching change with a 11-7 lead and two Falcons on base.
Senior Lee Morrison greeted reliever Kyle DeKeyser with a single to left field, scoring Loomis and advancing Hunt to second base to draw the Falcons to within three, 11-8, and still no outs. After freshman David Barkholz came in to pinch-run for Hunt at second base, Dukate roped a single to left field to score Barkholz and move Morrison to second base. Junior catcher Tim Newell recorded the first out of the inning when he sacrificed Morrison and Dukate into scoring position with a bunt. After pinch-hitter senior Chad Curliss popped out to the second baseman for the second out of the inning, Elias smacked a single down the first base line that bounced completely over first baseman Zebb Schroeder and scored two runs to knot the score at 11 apiece.
Barkholz then stepped to the mound to begin the 10th inning, BGSU's eighth pitcher of the game, and promptly sent the Bulldogs down in order. Loomis started the home-half of the frame by singling to right-center field and was sacrificed to second base by a bunt from Barkholz. After senior Lee Morrison was intentially walked by DeKeyser, Dukate's single past a diving Gary Hafner at third base brought home Loomis for the game-winning run.
Christman tied a school record with seven at-bats in the contest while Barkholz earned his first collegiate victory (1-0) as a Falcon.
BGSU is off until Tuesday, May 1, when it hosts Xavier at Warren E. Steller Field for a 2 p.m. (EST) non-conference game.
