BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's tennis team won all six singles flights en route to a 7-0 win over the arch-rival University of Toledo. The Mid-American Conference dual match was held Saturday afternoon (April 7).
The host Falcons improve to 13-8 overall and 2-1 in MAC play.
Three different Falcon players - junior Vitek Wild and sophomores Geoff Hiscox and Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo - each won their 20th singles match of the season. Hiscox improved to 20-8 on the year with a straight-sets victory over the Rockets' Dipesh Rao at the top flight.
At the second flight, Wild won in the minimum two sets over Pete Baghdati, moving his record to 20-11. Lopez-Acevedo is now 20-9 this season after a win at the fifth flight.
Sophomore Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo rallied from a narrow first-set loss at the third flight. In the only singles match to require three sets, Lopez-Acevedo lost a 7-6 set to Carlos Lomena, in a 12-10 tiebreaker, before winning the next two sets by identical 6-1 scores.
BGSU's other singles winners included freshman Nick Moxley at the fourth level and senior Brandon Gabel, a Toledo native, at the sixth flight.
In doubles play, the Rockets captured the top-flight match, but Gabel and Hiscox teamed for an 8-3 win at the middle level, while Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo and Moxley were victorious at the third flight by an 8-2 score.
With his singles win, Wild now has a career total of 136 victories. The junior is in fourth place, only six total wins away from tying the school record of 142, held by Radu Bartan (1996-99).
The Falcons step outside of MAC play for a pair of Sunday (April 8) matches. BGSU continues a six-match homestand with contests against Robert Morris College (10:00 a.m.) and Cleveland State University (2:30 p.m.). Both matches are scheduled to be played at Keefe Courts.
