BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Visiting Western Michigan University got wins at five of the six singles flights en route to a 6-1 win over the Bowling Green State University women's tennis team. The Mid-American Conference dual match was held Saturday (April 7) afternoon.
The loss drops the Falcons to 7-10 overall and 3-2 in MAC play.
BGSU's lone singles winner was senior Erika Wasilewski, who captured a 6-2, 6-4 decision over the Broncos' Melanie Remynse at the third flight. The win increased Wasilewski's team-high total to 16 singles victories this year.
Wasilewski now has a career total of 145 combined wins, moving her into a tie for third place (with classmate Meghan Rhodes) on the all-time school list.
Rhodes dropped a decision to Larissa Chinwah, falling in a third-set tiebreaker at the top flight. BGSU's other singles competitors were senior Abby Bratton at the second flight, freshman Lisa Maloney at the fourth level, senior Tracy Howitt at the fifth flight and freshman Gaby Coello at flight number six.
WMU swept all three doubles flights, including a narrow 8-6 decision over Bratton and junior Devon Bissinger at the top flight. Maloney teamed with Wasilewski at the second flight, with the Howitt/Rhodes team competing at the third level.
The Falcons will end the regular season with four consecutive MAC road matches, beginning with an April 13 contest at Eastern Michigan University.
