Holly Frantz Named to Verizon Academic All-District Team

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University student-athlete Holly Frantz (Grand Rapids, Ohio) was named today to the 2001 Softball Verizon Academic All-District team for District IV as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Frantz is a junior catcher for BGSU coach Leigh Ross-Shaw. She has appeared in 47 games, starting 45, and has five doubles and seven runs batted in. Frantz has four sacrifice hits, 199 putouts from behind the plate and a team-leading .992 fielding pct. for the Falcons, who take a 34-17 record into the MAC Tournament (May 10-12).
Frantz was one of 11 student-athletes from seven different NCAA Division I institutions selected to the 2001 All-District team. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for her career. District IV includes all schools within the states of Ohio, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and Michigan.
The names of the 11 first-team athletes will appear on the Verizon Academic All-America national ballot. The Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-America Softball team will be announced on June 5, 2001.
Frantz is a two-time member of the MAC Honor Roll. She has a 3.83 GPA and is majoring in sport management. She is a member of the BGSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is the daughter of Don and Martha Frantz.
Several Other Falcons Recognized On Verizon All-Academic Team
The BGSU Softball team had three other members selected to the Verizon Academic All-District Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Those making the District IV second team include pitcher Andrea Genter (Archbold, Ohio), pitcher Jessie Milosek (Brighton, Mich.) and MAC Player of the Year Nikki Rouhana (Westerville, Ohio).
This is the second time that Milosek and Rouhana have been named to the All-District second team, and it marks the first time for Genter.
Genter, a junior, has a 3.95 GPA as an early childhood education major, while classmate Milosek maintains a 3.83 GPA in human movement science. Rouhana, a senior and the MAC's Player of the Year, has a 3.33 GPA in sport management.
The Falcons open MAC Tournament play with a Thursday afternoon (May 10) game vs. either Ball State or Northern Illinois. BSU and NIU met in a 10:00 a.m. game, with the winner scheduled to face the Falcons at 3:00 p.m.
