MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Bowling Green State University senior Nikki Rouhana has been named the Mid-American Conference Softball Player of the Year for 2001. The announcement was made Wednesday evening (May 9) at the MAC Tournament banquet on the campus of Central Michigan University.
The MAC Player-of-the-Year award is determined by a vote of the league's 13 head coaches.
Rouhana, a native of Westerville, Ohio, led the league in batting (.415), hits (34, 1.42 per game), runs scored (27, 1.12 per game) and total bases (49, 2.04 per game) in MAC contests. She ranked second in both doubles and on-base percentage, and fifth in slugging pct. in league games.
Not surprisingly, Rouhana was also an All-MAC First-Team selection.
Overall, Rouhana brings a .358 batting average into the tournament. She has a fielding percentage of .985, including a .990 mark in conference games. Rouhana, also an All-MAC First-Team pick last year, has been a team captain in each of the last three years.
Rouhana becomes just the second Falcon ever to be named MAC Player of the Year, joining Amy Lienhardt, who was so honored in 1988.
