CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's cross country team has been picked to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference in 2001. The prediction is the result of the annual coaches poll. The Falcons finished sixth at last year's MAC Championship.
The Brown and Orange of head coach Sterling Martin earned 73 points in the poll.
Miami and Eastern Michigan each received 112 points out of a possible 144 points to tie for the top spot. EMU received five first-place votes, while Miami received four. Two schools abstained from voting in the men's poll.
Eastern captured last year's title, while Miami tied with Central Michigan for second place at the 2000 race. CMU was third in the poll with 104 points, followed by Kent State (86), Western Michigan (82), BGSU (73), Ball State (52), Marshall (45), Ohio (38), Akron (34), Buffalo (27) and Toledo (19).
The Falcons open the 2001 season on Sept. 8, competing at the Ohio University Dual in Athens.
