BGSU Men's Golf Team Finishes Fourth at EDS/Titans Invite

Jackson, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University men's golf team began its 2001 fall season with a fourth-place finish on Tuesday evening at the EDS/Detroit Titans Invite in Jackson, Mich. Wis.-Green Bay captured the 11-team Invite with a score of 860 in the three rounds, followed by Butler (864), host Detroit (865) and BGSU (867). Northern Illinois was behind the Falcons in fifth place with a score of 871.
Bowling Green recorded the best opening, 36-hole performance as a team in school history when it carded a 283 and 286 on the first day of the Invite for seven under par. The 283, 18-hole performance tied a school record for the best round of 18 holes in school history. BGSU shot 298 in its final round.
Junior Adam Balls was the highest finisher for coach Garry Winger, tying for ninth place with a score of 215. Balls carded a 71 in his first two rounds and finished with a 73 in his third round. Senior Justin Gillum tied for 12th with a score of 218, while Brian Gerken (219) finished tied for 16th, and Craig Pickerel and Austin Chase tied for 22nd (220).
The Falcons return to action in two weeks when they travel to the Ball State Invitational in Yorktown, Ind. (Sept. 22-23).
