Falcons Down the Grizzlies, 3-0

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team continued its successful start to a season, winning on the road against Oakland University, 3-0 (30-27, 30-24, 30-20). The Falcons 7-1 record is their best start since 1991. That '91 team went on to win the MAC title and participate in the NCAA Tournament.
A familiar face, senior Caty Rommeck, led the team with 10 kills, eight digs and 10 total blocks, including two block solos. However, some different faces accepted the challenge Tuesday night, registering impressive statistics of their own.
Sophomore Sara Sikorski had a night of career-highs, including five kills, two service aces, and one block solo. She also had a career-high five total blocks and led the team with 38 assists.
Senior Shyann Robinson, like Rommeck a transfer from Oakland, added five kills to the Falcon cause. She also matched her career-high with two service aces. Classmate Amber Vorst registered four kills of her own, as well as four total blocks. Junior Kristin Gamby had four kills and one block solo.
Sophomore Laura Twyman had six kills on the night, matching her career-high. Classmate Nadia Bedricky had six kills and no errors for a team-high .750 hitting percentage. Bedricky also registered seven digs and an assist. Redshirt freshman Bridget Protas recorded five kills in nine attempts for a .556 hitting percentage, as well as one block solo and three block assists.
Also seeing action for the Falcons were Kate Yeo, Susie Norris, Karen Amstutz and Melissa Mohr.
The Falcons had 48 kills and it .252 as a team, while the Grizzlies had 39 kills, hitting .130 as a team. BG had a season-high team total of 19 blocks to Oakland's five.
BGSU will stay on the road this week, returning to conference action at Northern Illinois Friday night (Sept. 28) at 7:00 p.m. CT.
