Bowling Green Sweeps Idaho in Coca-Cola Spartan Invitational, 3-0

East Lansing, MI - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team opened the Coca-Cola Spartan Invitational Tournament with a quick victory against the University of Idaho, winning 3-0 (30-23, 30-21, 30-19). The match was the first of three games for the Falcons in the tournament hosted by Michigan State.
Bowling Green was led by Caty Rommeck with 15 kills, two block solos and 5 block assists in the win. Rommeck also had 10 digs, matching classmate Natalie Becker in that department. Becker also led the team with 31 assists. Junior Kristin Gamby had 11 kills in 22 attempts, as well as four blocks in the match.
The sophomore class also contributed to the win with Nadia Bedricky leading the team with two service aces in the match, and Laura Twyman registering five blocks in the match.
Also seeing action for the Falcons were seniors Kate Yeo, Karen Amstutz, Amber Vorst, and Shyann Robinson, and freshman Melissa Mohr.
The Falcons had 44 kills and hit .245 as a team, while Idaho had 35 kills, hitting only .031 as a team. BG had just 18 errors in 106 total attempts, while Idaho committed 31 in 127 attempts. The Falcons had a team total nine blocks to the Vandals' seven.
BGSU will continue tournament action tonight at 6 p.m., taking on Winthrop and will meet host Michigan State Saturday (Sept. 8) at 8:00 p.m.
