AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Darryl Peterson scored 18 points, including two free throws with 21 seconds left in overtime, as Akron beat Bowling Green 87-86 Wednesday night.
Keith McLeod led Bowling Green (14-3, 4-2 Mid-American Conference) with 30 points, but missed an off-balance 3-pointer at the end of regulation.
McLeod also missed a jump shot with two seconds left in overtime. Len Matela, who had 25 points and 15 rebounds, grabbed the long rebound and missed a jumper as time expired.
Akron (5-13, 1-6) had five players in double figures, led by Rashon Brown's 24 points, six rebounds and five assists. David Falknor scored 21, Andy Hipsher 11 and Brian Wood 10.
Down 68-61 with 5:31 left in regulation, Akron went on a 15-5 run to take a 76-74 lead with 51 seconds remaining. Peterson had eight points during the run, which was capped by a Hipsher jump shot.
Brandon Pardon made a lay-up with 40 seconds left that would send the game to overtime.
Akron led 85-81 with 2:17 left in overtime on Hipsher's three-point play and a pair of 3-pointers from Falknor.
McLeod scored Bowling Green's final four points to take a 86-85 lead with 58 seconds left.
