BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University cross country teams travel to Indiana for Friday's (Oct. 4) Notre Dame Invitational. The Falcons of head coach Cami Wells will participate in the Gold Division races, with the women's race scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. locally (Central Standard Time), and the men's race set for a 2:45 p.m. start. An open race (both men and women) starts at 3:30 p.m.
The Falcon women are coming off a fifth-place finish at the Central Collegiate Championships last Friday (Sept. 27). Junior Amber Culp, racing in her hometown of Ann Arbor, Mich., led the way, finishing second among 88 individuals. Culp was just three seconds behind the winner.
On the men's side, senior Mario Rothmund was fifth overall, and the Falcons placed ninth at the CCC's. Rothmund has been the team's top finisher in each of the three races in which he has competed this year.
"We are really looking forward to the meet," said Wells. "Notre Dame is one of our athletes' favorite places to run because the course is flat and fast. It is a chance for us to run against some quality competition and run fast times.
"The women's team will have Nicola Viljoen back this week as well as Briana Killian. Briana is not 100% yet, but she is getting there."
Killian, a senior, has been the Falcons' top finisher in two races this fall, while freshman Viljoen paced the Brown and Orange in the Great American Legends race on Sept. 7.
"On the men's side, we will be without Patrick Maynard this weekend so the rest of the team will have to step up and run well in his absence," said Wells. "We have had a good week of practice, and everyone is upbeat and ready to race."
