FALCONS REMAIN RANKED
Despite seeing its 11-game win streak snapped at Northern Illinois, the Falcons are rated 25th in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll . It marks the fifth straight week that BGSU has been rated in a major poll. The Falcons were rated as high as 16th by the coaches and 20th by AP. The Falcons are ranked for the first time since December, 1985.
WHO IS SOUTH FLORIDA?
The Bulls are in their sixth season of playing at the intercollegiate level and second as a full-fledged member of Division IA. Although they are an independent, USF will begin competing in Conference USA next year.
Coach Jim Leavitt, the only coach in the team's history has led the Bulls to a 15-5 record over the past two years.
The Bulls are 1-1 against MAC competition (against Northern Illinois), including a 37-6 win over the Huskies at home in September.
Overall, USF is 23-2 in Raymond James Stadium, the home of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
REASON FOR OPTIMISM
* Despite the daunting task of playing the nation's best team you have never heard of on their home field where they have won 18 straight games, the following offers a positive spin for Falcon fans...
* BGSU is 6-0 against non-conference opposition under Urban Meyer, including five wins over BCS member schools.
* BGSU is 3-0 on the road against non-league foes Missouri, Northwestern and Kansas under Meyer.
* The Falcons are 3-0 under Meyer following a loss.
* The Falcons are 12-1 on grass and 9-1 in night games during the last two seasons.
* On BGSU's last visit in November to Florida, the Falcons captured a 33-30 overtime triumph against Central Florida on November 20, 1999. Current Falcon Joe Alls scored the game-winning TD on an eight-yard run.
