Senior middle hitter Kristin Gamby recorded her 1,000th career kill during the Falcons' four-game loss (28-30, 30-27, 24-30, 32-34) to Western Michigan on Saturday, November 22, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Mt. Victory native tallied 14 kills, five blocks and nine digs in her final road competition for the Orange and Brown. Gamby has totaled 363 kills this season and 1,011 during her BG career ranking her 11th in the books. She needs only five more kills to move into 10th and edge out former Falcon and WMU Bronco Heather Murphy.
After Friday's loss, Bowling Green owns an overall record of 9-20 and a Mid-American Conference mark of 4-13. The Falcon attack was led by Gamby who was followed closely by redshirt junior Laura Twyman who recorded 12 kills on 26 attempts for a .346 hitting efficiency. Twyman also returned three blocks.
Other players posting impressive were junior Susie Norris and Amber Mareski. Norris slammed down 10 kills and dug 13 for her 16th double-double performance of the season. Sophomore setter Mareski dished out 49 assists, dug nine balls and put away five blocks, two being solos.
BG returns home to Anderson Arena for its final match of the 2002 season on Saturday, November 23, at 3:00 p.m. The Falcons will face the Chippewas of Central Michigan in the afternoon competition. BG won the first contest between the two squads in three games back on October 25 in Mt. Pleasant.
