Kelly Hunt Named to Second Preseason All-America Team

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University first baseman Kelly Hunt has been named to his second preseason All-America team for the 2003 season. Hunt was recently selected to "Louisville Slugger's" Preseason All-America Third Team, as selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Hunt was tabbed third-team preseason All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Nov. 14 for 2003.
Hunt is a senior for the Falcons, who are the defending 2002 Mid-American Conference Champions. Hunt was a Collegiate Baseball Third-Team All-American and the MAC Player of the Year last season after setting or tying four BGSU single-season records. He ended 2002 with 22 home runs, 84 RBI, 168 total bases (all new records) and 86 hits (tied record).
Hunt was third in the nation in RBIs per game (1.58) and sixth in home runs per game (0.41) last season. Hunt is one of 18 returning letterwinners for coach Danny Schmitz and the Falcons.
The 6-foot-5 first baseman joins former Falcon outfielder Len Elias as the only two BGSU baseball players to be named to a a preseason All-America team. Elias was named a third-team preseason All-America in 2002 by NCBWA.
The first-team selection at first base was Vincent Sinisi of Rice and the second-team pick was Michael Johnson of Clemson.
BGSU begins the 2003 season for the second-straight year with a three-game series at the University of Tennessee (Feb. 21-23).
