Evansville, Ind. - Evansville scored in the first five innings on Saturday and then held on for a 11-9 victory over visiting Bowling Green at Charles H. Braun Stadium.
UE scored three runs in the first inning on just one hit while receiving five free passes from BGSU starter Doug Flere. The southpaw eventually struck out five and allowed six runs in two and two-third innings of action.
However, Bowling Green kept it close early with five runs combined in the second and third innings, thanks to just three hits and two Evansville errors. Nate Henschen doubled in Andy Hudak and Tim Newell in the second inning, and Corey Loomis tripled in two runs and scored on an error in the third. BGSU trailed just 6-5 after three innings.
However, the Purple Aces followed that up with another three-run inning in the fourth to take the lead for good.
Nick Elrod scored in the sixth, Kelly Hunt scored in the seventh and Hunt hit a two-run double in the eighth to round out the Falcons scoring.
Henchen, Hunt and Loomis all finished two-for-five with two RBIs at the plate with Hudak and Kirk Jensen each scoring twice.
Senior Brad Henry pitched three innings in relief and allowed just two runs on one hit, one walk and two strikeouts. Freshman Burke Badenhop and sophomore Neil Schmitz also saw time on the mound for BGSU, who fall to 1-4.
Each team finished with 12 hits.
