Lopez-Acevedo Named MAC Player Of Week, Again

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University men's tennis student-athlete Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday (March 26). Lopez-Acevedo wins the award for the second consecutive week.
Lopez-Acevedo, a native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, went 4-1 overall for the second consecutive week. He was 2-1 in singles play, with both wins coming at the number-two flight. Lopez-Acevedo won by a 6-1, 6-4 score in the Falcons' win over Duquesne, and had a 6-4, 6-4 result vs. Bradley. His lone loss was to Matt Lockin of nationally-ranked Michigan.
In doubles, Lopez-Acevedo teamed with senior Vitek Wild for a 2-0 record, with both wins coming at the top flight. The duo posted wins over both the 40th-ranked Wolverines as well as BU.
On the season, Lopez-Acevedo leads BGSU in both singles wins (18) and overall victories (32), and is tied for the lead in doubles wins (14). He is tied for 12th in school history with 62 career singles wins. Lopez-Acevedo is 18th in school history in doubles wins (58) and is tied for 14th in overall wins (120) at the school.
Last week, Lopez-Acevedo shared the MAC P-O-W award with Ball State junior Chris Varga. He also won the MAC's Male Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Week award for his play during that same week.
The Falcons, now 11-8 in dual-match play, will continue a six-match homestand with a Saturday (March 30) match vs. DePaul. That contest is scheduled to begin at noon at Keefe Courts.
