BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University softball team will spend spring break in Florida ... the Falcons (2-4 overall) of fourth-year head coach Leigh Ross-Shaw are scheduled to play a total of 10 games in Orlando, Fla., at the Rebel Spring Games ... BGSU's trip will begin with a Monday (March 11) contest against Rider ... the entire schedule follows:

Monday, March 11: vs. Rider, 4:10 vs. Colorado State, 7:50Tuesday, March 12: vs. Pennsylvania, 12:30 vs. Monmouth, 4:10

Saturday, March 16: vs. Mississippi, 12:30 vs. George Mason, 4:10 all times p.m. unless noted
Following the Florida trip, the Falcons will return to Ohio to begin both the home and the Mid-American Conference portions of the schedule with a March 21 doubleheader vs. Eastern Michigan.
HEAD COACH LEIGH ROSS-SHAW: Leigh Ross-Shaw is in her fourth season as a collegiate head coach, all with the Falcons, and has an overall record of 91-68 (.572) ... Ross-Shaw, the 2001 MAC Coach of the Year, has a league mark of 47-23 (.671) after leading the Brown and Orange to a MAC East Division title last year and a co-championship in 2000 ... she has the best winning percentage, both overall and in conference games, of any coach in BGSU softball history ... she is just 45 wins shy of the school's all-time leader, Jacquie Joseph.
Ross-Shaw assumed the top job after two years as BG's assistant coach ... the Ottawa Lake, Mich., native came to the Falcon program in August of 1996 after serving as a high-school head coach, at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, for four seasons.
Ross-Shaw is the only coach in school history to string together three consecutive winning seasons in MAC play ... the Falcons, who also had a winning league ledger in Ross-Shaw's last year as an assistant (1998), have posted four-straight winning MAC marks for the first time ever.
Ross-Shaw, a 1992 graduate of the University of Toledo, still holds numerous UT and MAC records, and remains the all-time conference leader in batting average (.398), at-bats and hits ... she hit a MAC-record .447 as a senior en route to All-America Second-Team honors ... in February of 2001, she was inducted into the UT Athletics Hall of Fame.
Lena Richards and Tami Summers each are in their first season as Ross-Shaw's assistants ... Richards, a native of East Lansing, Mich., played two years of softball at UT, earning All-MAC First-Team honors in both 1995 and 1996 ... Summers, a native of Tallmadge, Ohio, was a four-year letterwinner for the Rockets from 1984-87 ... she set school career records for appearances, innings pitched, strikeouts, ERA and winning pct. (.703) ... Summers returned to her alma mater, serving as head coach in 1998 and 1999.
THE OPPONENTS: Rider has an 0-4 record on the season, with the four losses coming at Virginia's Cavalier Classic ... the Broncs begin action in the Rebel Games on Friday (March 8), and are scheduled to play six games before meeting BGSU ... last year, RU went 25-31 overall and finished fifth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a 7-9 league mark ... senior Deanna Dovak led the nation in homers last year en route to becoming the first All-American in school history ... Tricia Carroll is 179-184 in her eighth year as a head coach, all with the Broncs ... the school's athletic web site is www.gobroncs.com.
Colorado State is 3-9 prior to the Florida action ... the Rams will begin play at the Rebel Spring Games on Saturday morning (March 9), with BGSU marking the team's fifth opponent of the trip ... CSU went 10-37 overall a year ago, and finished with a 7-12 Mountain West Conference record ... second-year head coach Mary Yori has a record of 13-46 at the school ... she is 472-204 in her 13th season as a collegiate head coach ... Penn has a 2-2 mark after splitting home doubleheaders with Fordham and Wagner ... the Quakers begin play in Florida Saturday, with seven games scheduled before meeting the Falcons ... last season, Penn finished with a 15-32 overall record, including a 3-11 Ivy League mark ... head coach Carol Kashow, coaching at her third Philadelphia school, is in her fifth season with the Quakers ... the school's athletic web site is www.pennathletics.com.
Monmouth has yet to open the season ... the Hawks play a Tuesday (March 12) game vs. Toledo before facing the Falcons later in the day ... a year ago, MU posted a 28-21 mark and finished second in the Northeast Conference with an 18-4 record ... Austin Peay is 6-13 on the year after a Wednesday (March 6) split with Lipscomb ... the Lady Govs will begin play at the Rebel Games Sunday (March 10), with BGSU being the sixth scheduled opponent ... last year, APSU finished with an overall mark of 13-42, and an Ohio Valley Conference mark of 8-13, good for a sixth-place finish ... head coach Tara Csernecky has a mark of 43-130 in her fourth year, all with the Lady Govs ... the school's web site is www.apsu.edu/athletics.
Yale opened the season with a pair of Sunday (March 3) wins over Quinnipiac ... the Bulldogs were scheduled to play a Wednesday twinbill at Central Connecticut State before heading to Florida ... in 2001, Yale finished with a 24-21 overall mark and an Ivy League ledger of 7-7, good for fifth place ... head coach Andy Van Etten is 143-136-2 in his seventh year, all in New Haven ... the school's athletic web site is www.yale.edu/athletic.
Bucknell, like Monmouth, will open the season at the Rebel Spring Games ... the Bison will begin play on Sunday morning, with BGSU the team's eighth scheduled game ... the team has a Bowling Green, Ohio, native in sophomore SS/2B Courtney Dohoney ... last year, Bucknell went 19-26-2, including a mark of 8-12 in the Patriot League ... head coach Janelle Breneman enters her second season at the school ... she has an overall record of 94-146-3 through six seasons as a collegiate head coach ... the BU athletic web site is www.bucknellbison.com.
Tennessee Martin takes a 6-8 record into the Rebel Games after a Tuesday (March 5) sweep of Loyola (Ill.) ... the Skyhawks are slated to play six games in Orlando before meeting BGSU ... a season ago, UTM went 9-45 overall and 4-17 in the Ohio Valley Conference ... the Skyhawks will mark the Falcons' fourth OVC opponent of the season ... Donley Canary is in his first year as head coach ... the school's athletic web site is utmsports.com.
Mississippi has an 11-5 record on the year, and the Rebels will play three games at Tennessee over the weekend (March 9-10) before opening play in Florida vs. the Falcons on March 16 ... last season, Ole Miss went 18-40 overall and 5-22 in Southeastern Conference play, placing sixth in the West Division ... head coach Candi Letts is 75-123 in her fourth year at the school and 230-228-1 in her ninth season overall ... the school's athletic web site is www.OleMissSports.com.
George Mason has a 5-6 record after a Tuesday sweep of Hampton ... the Patriots are scheduled to play 11 games in Orlando, with BGSU the ninth game in that stretch ... last year, GMU went 22-27 overall ... head coach Beth Fulcher is in her fifth year at the school ... the Patriots' athletic web site is gmusports.com.
THE SERIES: The Falcons have met only two of the 10 scheduled opponents before ... BGSU holds a 6-0-1 advantage over Rider in the all-time series between the teams, with all seven games coming between 1982 and 1986 ... all of those previous meetings (two in 1982 and 1986, three in 1983) came in Orlando, Fla., the site of this year's game ... the Falcons won the lone previous meeting with Yale, a 4-3 decision in Sacramento, Calif., in 1996 ... the Falcons have never met Colorado State, Penn, Monmouth, Austin Peay, Bucknell, Tennessee Martin, Mississippi or George Mason on the softball diamond.
LAST TIME OUT: The Falcons opened the 2002 season with a 2-4 record ... BGSU swept host Tennessee State in a Feb. 22 doubleheader before dropping all four games at the Worth/Icebreaker Tournament (Feb. 23-24), hosted by Tennessee Tech ... the Falcons fell to Bradley, Louisville, Virginia and host Tennessee Tech in the tourney.
NO-HITTER: Senior hurlers Andrea Genter and Jessie Milosek combined for a no-hitter in the season opener at Tennessee State ... Genter threw four innings to get the win, while Milosek picked up a save by throwing the final three innings ... Genter allowed a leadoff walk in the second, and hit the leadoff hitter in the fourth ... in that fourth frame, the Lady Tigers advanced the runner as far as third base on a BG error and a stolen base, but the threat ended there ... Milosek came on to start the fifth inning, and faced just one batter over the minimum ... that batter reached on a Falcon error with one out in the sixth ... Genter struck out three and walked one batter, while Milosek fanned one and did not issue a walk.
GOOSE EGGS: Both Genter and Milosek have yet to surrender a run this year ... Milosek has fashioned her 0.00 ERA in nine-and-two-thirds innings, while Genter has pitched nine-and-a-third scoreless frames this spring ... Genter has 12 strikeouts this season after fanning 46 batters during all of last year.
TRIPLE YOUR FUN: Junior Crystal Wilson had a pair of triples in that season-opening 6-0 win at TSU ... her three-bagger in the sixth inning was the first of her career ... then, she had another triple the very next inning ... Wilson, who had three extra-base hits in her first two years at BGSU, already has three (one double and the two triples) this season.
VOSHELL CAN HIT: Junior Libby Voshell had three of the Falcons' six hits in the Feb. 24 game vs. Tennessee Tech ... two of those hits were doubles ... Voshell leads the Falcons in hits (seven), doubles (four), runs batted in (four) and total bases (11), and is tied for the team lead in runs scored ... Voshell, who scored a total of six runs during all of last season, already has four runs this year ... she is second on the team with a .389 batting average, trailing only senior Holly Frantz (.400).
