TOLEDO, Ohio - Eastern Michigan University swept the doubles matches, then won at the top-four singles flights for a 5-2 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's tennis team Saturday afternoon (April 6). The Mid-American Conference dual match was held at Shadow Valley in Toledo.
The Falcons, now 2-15 overall and 1-4 in MAC action, got wins at the fifth and sixth singles flights. Sophomore Gaby Coello lost only three games in her straight-sets win over EMU's Kendra Clark at the fifth flight, while freshman Laura Kokinda rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Marijana Adzic at the sixth level.
BGSU sophomore Lisa Maloney suffered a narrow loss to Lisa D'Amelio at the second flight, falling by a 10-8 count in a third-set tiebreaker. The Falcons' other singles competitors were senior Devon Bissinger (flight #1), freshman Susie Schoenberger (#3) and junior Alyson Gabel (#4).
The Falcons will continue a four-match homestand with a pair of contests next weekend. BGSU will meet Marshall on Friday (April 12) before closing the home portion of the schedule with a Saturday (April 13) contest vs. Miami. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Keefe Courts.
