Falcons Double Their Pleasure In 2002

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The final NCAA softball statistics were released Friday (July 12), and Bowling Green State University was well represented. As a team, the Falcons led the nation in doubles per game, and BGSU was included in several other individual and team categories.
Individually, three members of the Falcons were ranked among the top-25 players in the nation in doubles per game.
Senior Natalie Phillips ranked seventh in the nation in doubles, with a per-game average of 0.37. Phillips had 16 doubles in 43 games played in 2002. Junior Libby Voshell also had 16 two-base hits in her 46 games this season. She ranked 11th with an average of 0.35.
Senior Renee Rosemeier was tied for 25th in the nation in that category (0.30), having totalled 14 doubles in 47 games.
BGSU was the only team with three student-athletes ranked in the top-30 in that category.
On the team lists, the Falcons averaged 1.88 doubles per game to lead the nation by a wide margin. BGSU hit a school-record 90 doubles in 48 games in 2002, easily outdistancing second-place Louisiana-Lafayette (1.68 dpg).
BGSU was ranked 27th in the nation in batting average, with a Mid-American Conference-best average of .289. Defensively, the Falcons ranked 19th in the country in double plays, having turned 0.40 per game. The Brown and Orange finished as the conference leader in that category.
The Falcons finished the 2002 season with an overall record of 22-25-1. BGSU tied for third in the MAC's East Division with a league mark of 11-13.
